Will We Survive the Next Four Years?

When you earn the money you need to earn to afford a cup of coffee at Starbucks instead of McDonald’s, and when you write about politics, you tend to judge the impact of political events in terms of whether a particular political happening will give you something to write about which will keep your audience either large enough to generate a few bucks or maybe even increase the size of your readership every day.

In that respect, thank God that Trump won and Kamala lost, because if she were headed towards the Oval Office after this week’s vote, I’d be headed towards the website which offers me an opportunity to earn a few bucks by selling some ‘clinically-tested’ diet drug online, instead of just coming up with the 600 or so words I need for the story I post on Medium every day.

For the last six moths or so, all I had to do to come up with a spiel every day was to react to the daily complaints by the Fake News pundits who all agreed that Donald Trump was a latter-day Hitler whose Fascist appeals were the greatest threat to American democracy of all time.

The fact that Hitler came to power when the German economy had totally collapsed and replaced a democratic form of government which was just fourteen years old is somehow never mentioned by Robert Reich, Michael Tomasky and all the other experts who seem to believe that a term…
