With All The Good News, How Come Kamala’s Behind?

I used to buy into the idea that if American troops weren’t in the line of fire anywhere and if everyone at home had a job, that if an incumbent President ran for re-election that it was a slam-dunk affair.

So, as of today we may have moved some 40,000 troops into the Near East but none of them are being shot at by anyone right now, and the economic news which was released today by the Labor Department had figures on employment and inflation which really can’t be beat.

The unemployment rate is still sitting at 4.1%, which means that anybody who wants to work can easily find a job. The economy added some 254,000 new jobs, the largest monthly increase since March, and a drop in the inflation rate without causing a spike in unemployment is, to quote Tony Soprano, a ‘beautiful t’ing.’

That all being the case, how come the Presidential campaign appears to be tied, with Trump maybe even a little bit ahead?

Well, maybe it’s because the incumbent President isn’t running for re-election, but that’s because when he was a candidate, his poll numbers stunk. And every time that Trump mentions Kamala, he makes a point of tying her to Joe and this narrative seems to be having some kind of effect.
