You Don’t Have to be Paranoid to Like Trump, but it Helps.

A story appeared today in various medical websites which may provide a clue to explain how and why Trump continues to generate support from people whose behavior cannot be rationally explained or even understood.

I’m talking about those schmucks who assaulted the Capitol back on January 6th, an event which in many respects happened because several thousand nut jobs showed up in D.C. responding to an invitation from Donald Trump and actually believed they could change the outcome of a national election which had been organized and supervised in the same way that we have run Presidential elections for more than two hundred years.

What always struck me about January 6th is that this is a country that has never experienced the kind of massive, anti-government events which occur in most other democratic societies on a regular basis.

The United States has never had the kind of general strike which paralyzed and almost brought down the French government in 1968. For that matter, the 1984–85 miner’s strike in England came close to completely shutting down the Thatcher government which was averted by more than 11,000 arrests.

And don’t make the mistake of thinking that mass violence in our country occurred during the Civil War, because even though the Federal government refers…
